Lead Detail Design Designer, HVAC and ship systems Design
We are Helsinki Shipyard – celebrating 160 years of shipbuilding excellence. Since 1865, we have been designing, building, and commissioning tailor-made, high-class passenger vessels and icebreakers for extreme conditions. We proudly continue the legacy of Helsinki’s own Shipyard, right in the heart of Helsinki.
With us, you get to design and build the ships under one roof from start to finish, in close collaboration with our customers. Our specialty lies in vessels that operate on the polar seas, but we can build everything from smaller yachts to complex multi-purpose icebreakers. To provide you with some perspective, we've built 50% of the world's icebreakers - without us it would be hard to navigate in the icy seas!
We are now beginning construction on a new heavy icebreaker for the Canadian government. The vessel will be constructed in Helsinki before being completed at Davie's shipyard in Quebec by 2030. Read more about the project here!
We are looking for a Lead Detail Designer for the HVAC Design Department. The HVAC design department is also responsible for designing and selecting suppliers for all passenger and crew comfort and safety-related piping systems and many other essential ship functions.
We offer a unique position in the global shipbuilding industry, overlooking a dynamic project portfolio of high-quality passenger vessels and special-purpose vessels. You will work with a skilled team of designers from various backgrounds and as part of a multidisciplinary design and project organization.
In this role, you are responsible for our field/areas of detail design in a specific project. You are responsible for ensuring the quality of project execution and maintaining the schedule. In a typical project, we coordinate the full detail design (excluding interior surfaces and furniture) of superstructure areas and some technical areas on lower decks.
Your role includes coordinating the department's detail design project tasks for the entire
project life cycle. You will also manage resource needs in cooperation with the department head and the project organization. A typical work day includes overseeing design work while resolving design solutions together with other designers and production specialists, taking part in the project meetings and reporting project progress. You will also participate in developing detail design in Helsinki Shipyard.
To succeed in this role you have at least:
- A Bachelor's degree from a relevant field of Engineering.
- Experienced with at least one 3D software
- Ability to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- We value work experience in project business, for example, as a 3D designer. We hope that you have experience in project management or other similar project coordination tasks, but with the right attitude, you can also succeed even if you are new to management roles.
- Helsinki shipyard uses AVEVA E3D in detail design and experience in using it is seen as an advantage.
- A good knowledge of the English language (both written and oral) is necessary
If you are a motivated and skilled designer with a passion for innovation and a commitment to excellence, we encourage you to apply. Your contributions will directly impact the performance, efficiency, and comfort of vessels operating in diverse marine environments.
