R&D Design Engineer (Voima Protect)
Build something that doesn’t exist yet.
Voima Protect, part of the Voima Group, safeguards hundreds of millions of physical value assets in physical infrastructure. The company is redefining how gold is stored and accessed, and now we’re building the next layer: combining decentralized physical storage with digital usability.
We are looking for an R&D Design Engineer to take ideas from concept to fully functioning systems. This is a new, practical role where you will design, prototype, and refine secure storage and automation solutions that bring the physical and digital worlds together. It’s your chance to help create the infrastructure for the bank account for gold, where security, automation, and user experience meet.
You’ll be developing a product from zero to one — turning raw concepts into working technology that can be scaled and deployed across markets. You’ll work across mechanics, robotics, automation, and access control — designing and testing prototypes in collaboration with manufacturers, technology partners, and Voima’s IT team. Your work will ensure that our systems are robust, reliable, and ready to protect customers’ assets in real-world conditions.
You’ll have your own workshop space for testing and experimentation, exploring how physical security systems can be automated and connected across borders. Here, you don’t just design — you build, test, and make things work.
What We’re Looking For
We’re after someone hands-on, resourceful, and fearless — a practical engineer who likes to experiment, iterate, and solve tough problems. To succeed in the role, you need to have strong skills in mechanical, electrical, or automation systems, experience with robotics, prototyping, or security devices, and a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience.
A successful candidate thrives when solving complex, safety-critical problems and enjoys working through challenges methodically. You will collect information, calculate alternatives, challenge assumptions, and propose innovative solutions. Prior experience with secure storage or vault systems is considered a plus.
You’ll fit right in if you:
- Turn ideas into tangible systems and working prototypes
- Take ownership and make things real
- Are proactive, solution-driven, and detail-oriented
- Thrive in an environment where not everything is ready yet
Your main location will be our head office on Bulevardi 5, right in the heart of Helsinki, where most of the work is carried out on site.
What We Offer
The project is still in its ramp-up phase, giving you the rare opportunity to build from a nearly blank canvas — from early prototypes to a scalable, cross-border system. You’ll work directly at the intersection of mechanical engineering, automation, and digital infrastructure, developing real systems that redefine how physical value is stored and secured.
This is your chance to join a truly disruptive project that brings together physical security, robotics, and next-generation financial infrastructure. You’ll have the freedom to design, test, and iterate — supported by a small, collaborative team with fast decision-making. Additional expertise and support will be brought in as the project progresses, ensuring that you have the resources needed at each stage.
In a nutshell, you’ll get:
- The opportunity to engineer something genuinely new from the ground up
- Clear ownership and room to experiment
- A small, driven team — no bureaucracy, just building, testing, and improving
