Lead Designer, interior design
We are Helsinki Shipyard - a company designing, building and commissioning tailor-made, high-class passenger vessels and icebreakers for extreme conditions. Our roots date back to 1865, and we proudly continue the story of Helsinki’s own Shipyard, in the heart of Helsinki.
With us, you get to design and build the ships under one roof from start to finish, in close collaboration with our customers. Our specialty lies in vessels that operate on the polar seas, but we can build everything from smaller yachts to complex multi-purpose icebreakers. To provide you with some perspective, we've built 65% of the world's icebreakers - without us it would be hard to navigate in the icy seas!

Since November 2023, Helsinki Shipyard has been part of the Canadian Davie group.
The interior design department in the shipyard is responsible, for example, for the following systems: furniture, galley equipment, insulation, wall paneling, ceiling paneling, floor materials, doors and locks, windows, elevators, stairs and signage.
Typically, the interior design department focuses on the following spaces: cabin spaces, public spaces, crew public spaces and office spaces.
We are looking for a Lead Designer for the interior design department to join our team of designers. The lead designer is responsible for the interior design scope of the entire shipbuilding project life cycle. A typical work day includes coordinating and overseeing design and procurement related work. The lead designer reports the project's interior design progress, procurement/purchasing progress and budgetary performance both to the project manager and to the head of the department. The Lead Designer will also prepare and oversee the project's material budget, design work hour budget and resource needs in collaboration with the project organization and the head of the department.
You will join a skilled team of interior designers from various backgrounds and also be part of a multidisciplinary design and project organization. Collectively, we're roughly 400 professionals specializing in shipbuilding.
“The ship project takes from 2-3 years, and you can literally see the completion of the ship from plans to the finished ship ready for her maiden voyage outside one’s own window. It’s always a moving moment when a ship leaves for her home port” - Mohamed Elameen, Ship Theory Engineer.
